5S Workplace Auditing & Assessment Services

Overview

5S Visual Workplace Management is a foundation tool for productivity and the lean workplace. Through its proven approach to reducing clutter, providing an optmised workplace layout and improving communication, 5S provides a platform on which to implement ongoing lean process improvements.

A 5S audit is an investigative process that reveals the status of a workplace from a 5S perspective. 5S audits are typically used by clients to provide either;

1. an identification of the need to implement 5S within a workplace that has not yet begun implementing 5S or,
2. ongoing feedback on progress within a workplace that is implementing or has implemented 5S.

Methodology

The investigative process seeks to identify opportunities through;

• engagement with the people involved in doing the work,
• observation of the targeted workplace,
• analysis of productivity measurements,
• a series of scoring systems tailored to the type of work being conducted within the workplace.

During the audit, observations are correlated to process improvement opportunity by relating them to a variety of lean concepts, including;

• Workplace alignment and layout
• 5S visual management standards and housekeeping
• Presence of wasteful practices (Inventory, Waiting, Over-processing, Over-production, Motion, Transport, Defects)
• Standardised work & process mapping
• Pull systems and work flow
• Error proofing
• Continuous improvement

Deliverables

The core deliverable resulting from a lean audit is the 5S audit report. The report identifies;

• the findings and opportunities
• a suggested prioritisation and order for tackling the opportunities and
• a suggested framework for implementing 5S within the client's workplace
