Creative Problem Solving Training Workshop
Overview
A One Day Workshop that can be provided on-site or at another appropriate venue.
For anyone involved in problem solving or identifying potential improvements.
The Problem Solving Fundamentals workshop introduces a variety of useful and commonly applied techniques for decision making and problem solving. Between each theory session, the participants work together or in groups to apply the techniques to real issues within their workplace, culminating in a Proposal A3 Report that incorporates their work and proposed approach to resolution. The techniques are introduced in a typical order to provide a framework for effective translation to the workplace.
Typical Agenda
- Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) and DMAIC concepts
- How to facilitate a brainstorming exercise to collect ideas
- Pareto Analysis
- Simple Voting
- Paired Choice Matrix
- Nominal Group Techniques
- How to identify the steps involved in identifying the key steps that affect the outcomes of the process
- Questioning techniques and possible causality identification
- General Structure of an A3 report (and it’s relationship to PDSA)
- The importance of Visual Information
- Examples
The Problem Solving Approach
Brainstorming Techniques
Exercise: the participants conduct a brainstorm to create a list of potential improvement opportunities
Decision Making Techniques
Exercise: The group uses decision making techniques to identify specific opportunities from the large list
SIPOC & Process Mapping
Exercise: The group uses SIPOC to clarify their problem
The 5 Whys and Ishikawa
Exercise: The group creates a fishbone diagram to identify potential causality.
A3 Reporting
Exercise – Teams create a proposal A3 Report to pilot implement corrective action
Pre-Requisites: It is recommended, though not essential, that participants have attended the following workshops prior to attending the Lean Project Management and Leadership Workshop;
