Methodology

Lean process improvement projects typically consist of three phases;

Phase 1: Investigation

The investigative process seeks to identify the potential opportunities for process improvement through;

• engagement with the people involved in doing the work,
• documenting the existing processes (the current state) though process mapping and value stream mapping,
• observation of the targeted workplace,
• analysis of productivity measurements.

The investigfating are correlated to process improvement opportunity by relating them to a variety of lean concepts, including;

• Workplace alignment and layout
• 5S visual management standards and housekeeping
• Presence of wasteful practices (Inventory, Waiting, Over-processing, Over-production, Motion, Transport, Defects)
• Standardised work & process mapping
• Pull systems and work flow
• Error proofing
• Continuous improvement
